Remember, cash refunds are tax-free. Although the IRS taxes you every way it can, the one thing it can't get its hands on are your cash refunds. The checks and cash you get through refunding are considered rebates on items purchased, not income earnings. Another great reason to take advantage of refunding!

The following companies will mail you their refund forms. However, you can't just write and ask the companies to tend you all their current refund forms; you must mention the specific refund offers you've heard about (such as those in this page):

Procter & Gamble (state specific name of refund offer), P.O. Box 432; Cincinnati, Ohio 45299. Make sure your request is mailed at least 30 days before expiration dale of refund and that the refund forms you request were made available in your area. Procter & Gamble returns postage costs.

Vicks Chemical Co., Div. Richardson Merrell, 10 Westport Rd., Wilton, Conn. 06897. Att. Merchandising Services. Please indicate name of refund offer on outside of envelope and enclose a stamped, self addressed envelope.

Add your name to a direct-mailing list. If you want to be sure to receive coupons and refund offers that are distributed through the mail, it helps to be included on mailing lists. Request that your name and address be added to the following: Donnelly-Marketing, 1235 N. Ave., Nevada, Iowa 50201.

Tell your children school about the Post Fun 'N Fitness refund program. Here's how it works: Post is offering free athletic equipment for public, parochial and private elementary schools (grades kindergarten through eight) with "Fun 'N Fitness" POP seals from various Post products. Tell your child's school to check for details. Requests for the equipment catalog may be made only by elementary schools to this toll-free phone number: (800) 435-7678; in Illinois, call (800) 892-1869. Offer expires June 30.1981.

Keep an eye out for the new "coufunds" that are becoming popular with manufacturers... This newest form of rebate is a hybrid - a cross between a coupon and a refund. It requires proof of purchase just the way a refund does, but is redeemed at the checkout like a coupon Coufunds have been appearing in super-markets, newspapers and magazines Their benefits? You pay no postage and handling costs; there is no limit on the number redeemed, provided each coufund coupon is accompanied by a purchase and, best of all, you don't have to wait for the refund to arrive by mail.

Post office pointers: One New York postal worker told us that refunded should be careful about packaging and mailing their proofs of purchase (POPs) because postal workers occasionally find coupons and POPs that fall out of envelopes and have no way of returning them to their rightful owner. When sending in cardboard POPs, enclose them first in a small plastic wrapper before placing in a regular envelope, or use a heavier stock manila paper envelope. When heavier POPs are required, such as tin or plastic lids, be sure they're wrapped well enough so that they won't cut or rip through the envelope.

Red line your expiration dates! When organizing your coupons and refund forms, good idea to underline the expiration dates in red (or some other color that will stand out) This not only saves time when sorting, but prevents you from overlooking valuable coupons and refunds that are about to expire.

How to handle containers that don't have removable labels (such as canned tomato products and plastic shampoo bottles): Usually, with these products, companies ask for the UPC code number stamped on the container, a tracing of the front of the container, metal can lids (be sure to place between cardboard, and tape together) andor a cash register receipt with the price circled. In these instances, it's a good idea to save the metal lids, note down the code number and make a tracing of the artwork on the container.
