Buy One Get One Free Part 2(March 18, 2011)
Who doesn't like something for Free. I know I do. I love going to the supermarket and getting free samples. Marketing experts have brought this concept to the promotion of products.
Have you noticed supermarkets that promote goods as a Buy One Get One Free? Here's how it works. Recently, Maxwell House was on sale as a BOGOF, that couponers' jargon. The price on the first one was $4.95 and second one was free. The cost for each coffee was $2.50. The advantage on this type of sale is more for the supermarket than for the consumer. First, we're forced to buy 2 items to take advantage of the sale price. Next, we can only use one coupon since this is considered a single purchase. For us, the better sale would be $5 for 2. That way we need only purchase 1 to get the $2.50 price and we can use our coupon on the single item getting a better percentage of savings. Still BOGOF's can still help us effect good savings. In all these decisions, common sense should prevail. Recently Dynamo and/or Fab detergent were offered as a buy one get one free. The price for the first was $5, bringing the cost for each down to $2.50. I used a $1 coupon bringing my final cost to $2 each, in my mind, a good deal. Some coupons are worded as a BOGOF. Procter and Gamble as of late, has been using this format on some of their products. I've noticed this on Olay, Gillette, and Tide. The free item in this case in not always the same as the initial purchase, but on a compliment to the original product. The interesting part of this: you get to try a different and possibly an untried product. It adds a little spice to the mix. The most important consideration is using all the tools available to us to make our shopping experience the best it can be. Our purpose is to save the most. Using every technique available we can do that by incorporating all the smart saving tips we learn from others and from ourselves. Sharing good saving tips helps everyone.
